Mot testing, vehicle servicing and trusted repairs

Did you know your vehicle is almost twice as likely to breakdown during the winter season than at any other time of year? This is due to the fall in temperatures causing problems such as frozen water in your radiator, battery failure and fluctuating tyre pressure. Along with having car servicing, MOT testing and vehicle diagnostics checks at our garage, there are many useful preventative methods you can take to avoid breakdowns and car repairs in winter, as discussed in this blog post .

Preparing Your Car for Winter

  1. Low winter temperatures can seriously reduce the performance of a car battery, affecting the way it produces and stores electricity. If your battery is more than 3 years old and you haven’t had car servicing or MOT testing carried out recently, we recommend that customers arrange for one of our expert technicians to check it is working effectively. If there is a problem with the battery, we use industry-leading vehicle diagnostics equipment to identify the issue.

  2. Make sure your car tyres are at the optimum pressure and in good condition. During extreme temperatures, tyre pressure can fluctuate greatly, decreasing when the car is sat till in cold temperatures and increasing when the car is in use. Marlow motorists may find their air pressure light coming on due to this fluctuation if the correct tyre pressure is not maintained. Having the wrong tyre pressure can often lead to breakdowns and car repairs which could have been prevented.

  3. Keep checking the fluid levels and antifreeze in your car. In cold temperatures, the fluids can thicken resulting in less free flowing movement and reduced vehicle performance. Our technicians recommend starting your vehicle for 10 to 15 minutes before starting a journey in below 0˚ temperatures, to warm up your car. You can also get a technician to check fluid levels and antifreeze strength at our garage.
