WHEN SHOULD I BE LOOKING TO CHANGE MY TYRES?
While the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm, most manufacturers and automotive experts would recommend that you change tyres before they wear down so low. This is because the less depth they have, the longer it takes for you to stop in wet weather or an emergency situation. The fresher your tyres, the shorter your stopping distance.
We’d urge High Wycombe motorists to look to replace their tyres at around the 2mm mark, if not before. But there are other circumstances which may also dictate the need for a change, some more obvious than others. A flat or blowout, puncture, bulging or blistered sidewall, uneven wear patterns or lacerations are also reasons to swap out tyres.
If you’ve spotted structural damage or have noticed your vehicle handling strangely, we urge you to pay our garage a visit. We can carry out vehicle diagnostics and any required car repairs to ensure your vehicle remains responsive, safe and road-legal.
WHAT IS WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND WHY SHOULD I INVEST IN IT?
A very common form of car repairs, wheel alignment involves adjusting three key metrics within your axles: camber, toe and caster, which determine the precise angles at which your tyres meet the road. High Wycombe motorists with poorly aligned wheels may be suffering from poor fuel efficiency, unresponsive handling and tyres that are subjected to uneven wear. Having our team of expert mechanics carry our wheel alignment, carefully adjusting the camber/toe/caster on your vehicle, will rectify these issues.
HOW OFTEN IS AC SERVICING REQUIRED?
The general consensus within the automotive trade is that air conditioning systems lose between 15% and 20% efficiency each year. Most garages therefore recommend AC servicing every two years or so, as you don’t want your system to completely cease working. However, if you’ve noticed your system is functioning poorly or not at all, then the best time for AC servicing is right now, so give our High Wycombe garage a call to arrange an appointment.
WHY SHOULD I BRING MY VEHICLE IN FOR REGULAR CAR SERVICING?
The main benefits that car servicing afford are improved fuel efficiency, reduced likelihood of requiring urgent and expensive car repairs, and better chances of passing upcoming MOTs first time. Car servicing also helps maintain your vehicle’s value and extend its lifespan.
HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT CAR DIAGNOSTICS?
Miller Commercial Motors uses some of the best car diagnostics equipment on the market, which communicates with vehicles’ on-board computers, analysing reports of any historic automotive malfunctions. When combined with the human experience we’ve accumulated over the years, there’s little we can’t get to the bottom of when it comes to car diagnostics.
ARE THERE ANY EXEMPTIONS FOR MOTS?
Vehicles that are less than three years old, or were manufactured before 1960, do not require MOTs. We would recommend, however, that our High Wycombe clients with a penchant for classic cars invest in regular car servicing / check-ups. Just because they’re technically road-legal doesn’t mean they’re necessarily road-safe!
